Mayra is in her freshman year and is studying Business Administration with a concentration in marketing.
“Growing up, I have seen and heard the many hardships of the Latino community: Racism and discrimination, ICE deportation camps, economic hardships- the unfair wages for immigrant field workers, Latin women’s reproductive health being in jeopardy while in deportation camps, and much more. My goal is to use my degree to influence the media to bring attention to these problems of the Latinx community, so that they are not only seen but heard.
I am paying for my schooling by myself through my labor and savings, having this support gives me peace of mind going into the winter term, allowing me to focus on my classes instead of how I will pay for housing next semester.”
