Okelina is a junior in high school but has great ambitions of studying communication and political science.
I really want to do advocacy work to help with global issues such as genocides that are happening in multiple countries. I want to spread awareness about these issues and find solutions. I might potentially like to work for a non-profit organization that helps people in other countries who have lost their homes or face other challenges. I would also like to advocate for women across the world. I am inspired to do this by the many female activists throughout history, like Mary McLeod Bethune and Angela Davis.
I feel relieved that this grant will allow me to work less hours to pay for college. I am also proud to have my hard work and the things I do for other people recognized. Most of all I am thankful.”
