Erwyn is currently working towards his BS in Nursing. Erwyn felt pulled to this career path as he has always had a passion to help others succeed and lead a better life stemming back to when he was a school teacher. “During my years as a teacher I would teach a lot of nurses. It made me realize I too wanted to go down that path and serve others. I have always had a lot of compassion and felt nursing would help me make a difference when someone needed it the most. Often when people are faced with illness, they don’t understand it or will just give up. I want to be that friend, that friend who gives them a voice to make sure they get the best care and keep focused on improving or, if the situation warrants, the comfort if they cannot improve to have the best quality of life until the end.
I will be using this grant to continue my classes and am so touched that the Wong family nominated me for this grant because they saw something so unique in how I supported their father. This has emboldened me to continue to care with compassion as caring without compassion is meaningless, but caring with compassion is divine and makes a noticeable difference.”
