Sam is studying to become a medical doctor and hopes to become an OB/GYN when she graduates. Sam chose this field because…”I want to increase access to women’s healthcare, especially in a time when giving birth in the US can be a very dangerous and scary environment. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to receive care without fear of judgement or financial burden. My goal once I become a doctor is to advocate and create a safe space for my patients while they are under my care.
I am entirely responsible for financing my education and relied on the campus food bank and career closet to sustain myself. It feels amazing to be recognized and I am going to use this money to pay for my first board exam as I live entirely off my loan package from the university which places me at the poverty line so was not sure how I was going to pay for it, but now I can!”
