Thiara is a recent NY HS graduate and will be attending Binghamton University in the fall. Her goal is to get a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering a passion she picked up from her dad. “My father was a mechanic when he was younger. I used to follow him around to talk about cars, car parts, and dispute which car brand was superior, which I found fascinating. My goal is to get a mechanical engineering degree and work in the automotive industry to develop electric vehicles which not only will minimize pollution but also provide car owners with more safe and pleasurable automobile.”
Thiara further shared with us… “I want you to know that I couldn’t have asked for anything better! I cried a lot when I got home that day because I came from the Dominican Republic four years ago, not knowing how to speak English, and now I’m graduating as an honor student, receiving this grant and awards, and even planning to attend a good college to pursue my dreams, something that only the rich can do in my country because college is so expensive. This is such a blessing that I feel obliged to celebrate! Thank you a huge amount!”
